Why Do A YouTube Page?

Why Do A YouTube Page?

Mar. 16th, 2022

Over the last month you’ve probably heard about the new You Tube channel that we started. Hopefully by now you’ve even had a chance to watch a few of the videos.

I’ve had a couple of people ask me why we decided to do this so I thought this would be a good opportunity for me to explain the purpose of the channel and to answer some of the questions I’ve received.

What is the primary content of the channel?

As you might expect, I engage in a lot of conversations with folks who are nearing retirement or who are already retired. These conversations almost always include questions about a particular topic that that person is dealing with. Once I begin seeing a pattern of folks with the same question or concern, that becomes a relevant topic to discuss on either the podcast or the YouTube channel. So the goal is to be able to provide clarity on a variety of topics that are relevant to people who tune in.

Ultimately we’ll wind up with a library of topics that you can view to get my views on. These videos will be available to you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Why YouTube?

Google is the most used search engine in the world. The word has become a verb nowadays. How many times have you said…”you should google that.” Guess what the 2nd most used search engine is? You guessed it-YouTube. There will eventually be other options for posting educational content for folks to see, but for now we will use YouTube.

Are you trying to be a YouTube Star?

Ha! No way! So my kids are the only ones who have asked me this question. Clearly this is not the goal here.  I’ll leave internet stardom to the folks who do that for a living. I’m not super comfortable in front of a camera and don’t like how I look or sound. I always joke that I have a voice for newspaper and a face for radio.

How often will you post new videos?

My goal is to try to post something weekly. However, this will not always be the case. Our clients always take priority and posting new content will take a back seat to client matters. It does take a fair amount of time to research content, edit videos, and post to the channel so we try to set aside these activities on days we don’t meet with our clients.

Should I subscribe to the channel and why?

Yes! You should absolutely subscribe to the channel because you’ll be notified when new content is uploaded. We try to be timely with our videos so the content is relevant when it’s posted. We could post a video that is related to a specific event in the news right now. If you don’t see that video for 2 or 3 months, it won’t have the same impact as when it was first released.

I also think that I am able to better convey a message via video than a print message. Sometimes a written word may not have the same tone as a video message.

How do I subscribe to the channel?

Liking a video and subscribing to a channel are two completely different things. Sure we’d like you to like all of our videos, but you are better off subscribing to the channel. In order to do this, you must have an account with google. This is what you use to sign into google. Many folks are now using YouTube TV rather than traditional cable or satellite TV, so if you are signed into google, you can subscribe to our channel. If you don’t have a google account, all you have to do is create an account by establishing a Gmail account.

Do I have to pay to be a subscriber?

This thought never crossed my mind but I did get the question. No, you can subscribe to the channel and there is no charge for doing so. Remember, YouTube makes money from advertisers so they don’t charge viewers to watch videos.

How do people find the page?

This one is a little tricky. YouTube uses an algorithm to push certain channels out to the viewers. They want engaged viewers so they promote the channels that are active with content, viewers, and subscribers. Our channel is brand new, so it’s not likely to just show up as a related video for people on YouTube just yet. Hopefully it will in time, but we have to have more subscribers for that to happen. The first milestone for a new channel is to have 100 subscribers. As of today’s date, we have 58 subscribers so we still have a lot of work to do.

As a point of reference, I have a friend who is also a financial advisor who started a channel about 2 years ago. He got to 100 subscribers in about 3 months and out of the blue, the YouTube algorithm pushed out one of his videos and this one video got over 300,000 views. He now has over 4000 people subscribed to his channel.

Hopefully this answers any questions that you may have regarding the reasoning behind our decision to jump into video content and why we chose YouTube as the platform to do so.

As always our number one goal is to bring the most possible value to our clients. Many times that is in face to face meetings. Sometimes it is with phone calls, web meetings or emails. Hopefully the videos will be helpful for you as well.

Thanks again for the trust you’ve placed in our firm!
