The Greatest Generation

A couple of weeks ago, I had the privilege of meeting with 91 year old man who needed some financial guidance. One of his family members brought him to the office to discuss his situation. He really just wanted to talk about his options for a few CD’s that had matured. The money conversation lasted only a few minutes, and then the fun really began.

The conversation was fascinating. He’s been married to his wife for more than 70 years! Imagine that! If Pam is able to put up with me for 70 years, she will no doubt have an extra jewel in her heavenly crown. He told me there were a couple of secrets to their long term marital success. He said he tells her every single night that he loves her and then he gives her a kiss. He also said that they never go to bed mad at each other.

Certainly he has slowed down in recent years. His handwriting has been affected by what he calls the “tremors”. His hearing was a bit limited, but his mind is still sharp. During the paperwork process, he was able to provide social security numbers for him and his wife. With pride he even recited his enlistment service number. It was really a fun conversation.

It was a nice reminder that people who are older than us are usually full of wisdom and stories that are really interesting to listening to.

In my latest podcast, I had the opportunity to interview a long time client couple. Larry and Susan Johnson were gracious with their time and shared some of their story to our listeners. Be sure you catch the latest episode and hear how they are having a blast in retirement.

Also in this email is a link to another podcast that is worth a listen. You know that John O’Leary is one of my favorites to listen to. As a young boy, he was basically blown up in a gasoline fire and was given almost a zero percent chance to live. He survived and is now paying it forward with stories of inspiration on his Live Inspired Podcast. I’ve linked his interview with a 27 year old who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s. It’s a fascinating story!

Thank you for the trust you’ve placed in our firm. Make it a great week!
